A collection of essays about the unique American condition. Although published 48 years ago, many of the essays are as topical today as they were then. For instance, this is the opening sentence of one very short essay: "One of the many extraordinary aspects of American life is the frequency with which people shoot people." And today, it is even worse. I no longer remember the title of the course I took that had me read this book, but many of the essays still occupy prominent places in my mind.Book is well worn, with the cover color rubbed significantly and creases and folds at the corners. The inner pages are clean and clear, lacking notes, highlighting or underlining. Illustrated throughout, black and white.

Standard paperback. Very little wear. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked and the spine is free of creases. Owners' names inside front cover.

A volume of Reader's Digest Explore America series. Very little wear. 144 clean, tight and unmarked pages. TChapters include St. Augustine (FL). Pilgrims of Plimoth (MA), Straits of Mackinac (MI), Colonial Williamsburg (VA), Revolution in Boston (MA), Federal Philadelphia (PA), California Missions, Frontier Spirit (IL), Confederate Charleston (SC), and Gold Rush Country (MT). It concludes with Gazetteer: Traveler's Guide to Historic Places.

No dust jacket. The book shows some water damage, including some staining at the front, extending through about page 27 (see photo #3, 4). Remaining pages show just some minor waviness at the top. There is a spine break at page 144, with binding fabric showing through. No pages are loose, but the half-title page is missing the lower right quarter (also see photo #4). A book full of black and white photography from many of the more important Southern California events from 1920 to 1987 (a series of photos from the 1984 Olympics are in color). Photos # 8 and 9 show a series of uncaptioned photographs described as a gallery of New Age Los Angeles Rock and Roll bands (1979). Recognize anyone? This book will ship at over three pounds. No dust jacket. Somewhat worn cover, pages in good shape. owners' names inside front cover. Early pictures are drawings, of course. Begins with "Indians of the Forest", drawing and paragraph. Pictures are accompanied with 1-2 paragraphs in explanation. Twelve sections covering major time frames, from 1000 to the early 1950s. Ends with a section of the presidents, from Washington to Eisenhower.

Three autobiographical accounts from former slaves in the American South. Cover shows some minor wear, but nothing excessive. 409 pages, clean, intact, unmarked. Trade paperback. Get it now before some republican legislature bans it for making some people feel "uncomfortable".

Trade paperback. Very little wear. Bookstore price sticker on back. Twenty three accounts of battles between American Indians and the invaders on their land. Originally published in 1904, 423 pages.

Trade paperback. A large book with very little wear. Correspondence from the Civil War to Bosnia. About 150 letters, some short, some long. Part of the Legacy Project.

Trade paperback. Originally published in 1941. Very little wear, no spine creases. A telling of the civil war from the view of the capitol.

Brief biographies of each. Also has a section about the office, a list of Vice Presidents, election results, and information about the White House. Many photographs. Little wear. The true story of a white man who married into the Nez Percé tribe. Set of black and white photographs in the center. Autobiographical. Also very rare.

Trade paperback. The first of two biographies about Burr by this author. I assume it to be a book club edition by the lack of a bar code or ISBN. Shows some wear, including spine creases, a crease on the front cover, and some chips at the edges and corners. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked.

Dust jacket shows a little wear, mainly along the lower edges. This includes a 2 cm tear at the front lower left. There is what looks like a coffee stain at the top corner of the page ends which does not penetrate far into the pages, as shown in photos # 4 and 5. Inscription inside the front cover. Filled with many black and white photos, drawings and maps. Does not cover all the battlefields, but well covers the main campaigns. Unfortunately lacks an index. Will ship at over two pounds.
